Washington, DC Walk - Part 2

Saturday's walk took us to the Smithsonian museums. We caught the Air and Space Museum as well as the National Gallery of Art. Both were very crowded but it was good to see stuff I hadn't seen in years. I recommend both if you visit. We also were able to catch an exhibit on Jim Henson and how he created The Muppet Show, Fraggle Rock and his other characters. Brought me back to my childhood.

Washington, DC

This past weekend we visited Washington, DC. It had probably been twenty years since I went as a tourist, so my wife and I thought now was a good time since we could appreciate things more than we were as a kid. Friday's hike took us through the Vietnam Memorial, Washington Monument and Lincoln Memorial. It was great to see the enormity of these. We were however, perpexled by how close plane's flew over the Lincoln Memorial. I tried to capture it in the photo below.

95 Heat Index

Today's walk was nothing new except that we chose to walk 3.33 miles home from downtown Brooklyn in the 100 degree weather. This first picture is what we felt like when we were walking thru with the extreme heat. I think anyone outside today would probably agree. When crossing over the gowanus canal we came across about a half dozen jellyfish. It was a little surreal, seemed like someone brought a bucket from the beach with them and dumped in the canal. I almost felt like I was looking at real water til I saw all the ooze and trash in the water. I thought the sign in "The Enemy is Everywhere" was very fitting for the moment...

I found this guy playing Petanque yesterday on Smith Street. Do you think he knew these lips were on him???

Bastille Day - Smith Street

Yesterday was the annual Petanque tournament on Smith Street in Brooklyn celebrating Bastille Day. I've been playing bocce this past year to get ready for the tournament but wasn't quick enough to the draw to get in this tournament. Maybe next year.

Brooklyn Museum Walk

It has been a long time since we got to take a long walk, but Saturday we jumped at the opportunity to visit the last few days of the Murakami exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum. We then continued on our path through Prospect Heights and Park Slope.
