La Plaza Cultural

On Saturdays walk, we came across La Plaza Cultural on 9th Street an Avenue C. It was a great spot hidden behind awesome willow trees and interesting sculptures on a fence. (see below photos). I came to learn that the park has been renamed for former democratic leader Armando Perez. Anyone walking around the East Village should definitely seek this place out. Its hard to believe it is there.

And they just chopped down the biggest Willow Tree in it. One story is that a branch broke off in the wind and they decided to to take the whole tree down just in case. It's unclear who "they" are exactly. It's an outrage if that's the story.
